I enjoyed being a nurse aid in the local retirement centre

One summer during my college years, I worked in a small nursing home in my hometown. I usually had the evening shift and would come in the late afternoon when the sun was warm and a few of the residents would be out on the porch, just enjoying the sunshine, very different from my previous tamworth telesales jobs .I would have a couple of ladies to help as they got ready for dinner. After their bath, I would dress them and quickly fix their hair so they could come down to dinner. I loved helping them freshen up and the shampoo always smelled so good in their hair as it dried. They were not able to express it, but I always felt that this was one of the best parts of their day, feeling clean and fresh. At dinner I would help feed some of the patients who could not manage that task. I would have a quick dinner after that, and then we would start helping everyone get ready for bed. It took quite a while to get everyone in bed, and then we would do laundry until time to go check on our sleeping patients. I loved the routine of it and feeling that I had helped someone in a small way
