Walk Crete and Stay at the Aquis Zorbas Village

Away from its picturesque coastal resorts, Crete’s interior is a mixture of fertile plains and craggy limestone mountains, the wilder parts of which remain unspoilt by commercial tourism and are rarely explored save by goatherds and, increasingly, walking enthusiasts. Lots of holidaymakers are drawn to Crete’s Samarian Gorge – the longest canyon in Europe – by its breathtaking scenery. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the White Mountains, the Samarian Gorge National Park is only open from early May to October and get busiest during peak season. If you’re thinking of going hiking in Crete, you’ll need to choose your base camp carefully. The Aquis Zorbas Village hotel in Hersonissos ticks all the right boxes.
